In the Indian state of Haryana, the Department of Skill Development and Industrial Training offers skill training to the youth population. Haryana has 172 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 246 Private Industrial Training Institutes (PITIs); both conduct trade programs. The GITIs constitute 139 Co-Ed and 33 women-only ones.
Across Indian states, the Industrial Training Institutes function as post-secondary schools. Further, the ITIs come under the Directorate General of Training (DGT) of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of the Union Government. The technical training centers were instituted to impart training in an array of trades.
As part of ITI trades, both the 2-year engineering and 1-year non-engineering ones are included
In Haryana, During the current academic session 2020-21, 77472 sanctioned seats in 3563 trade units are functional in Govt. ITIs and 55432 sanctioned seats in 2647 trade units are functional in Pvt. ITIs of State. During session 2020-21 admissions, 86036 seats were offered for admission (55100 in Govt. ITIs & 30936 in Pvt. ITIs) against which 62623 trainees (45201 in Govt. ITIs & 17422 in Pvt. ITIs) have been admitted to ITIs.
During the year 1966, the state of Haryana was formed, having 48 GITIs with 7156 seating capacity. Presently, the state boasts of 418 GITIs and PITIs, including a total of 121600 sanctioned seats. The Haryana-based ITIs conduct a range of programs in 81 varied trades.
Besides, the ITIs regularly update the course curriculum, training methods and conduct refresher training of the trainers via the Industry Sector Council of the Government of India. Going by the market demands, new trade courses are being introduced as well.
In general, ITIs offer vocational training to youngsters who want to gain technical know-how. Upon completing the courses, they have to appear for the All India Trade Test (AITT). If successful, they receive the National Trade Certificate.

Different trade courses have varying eligibility norms; they require the candidates to pass 8th or 10th or 12th standard exams to qualify. Depending on their grades in the qualifying exam, the candidates get admission on merit basis.
